Recovery fails with "Enhanced networking with the Elastic Network Adapter (ENA) is required for the 'xxxx.XXXXX' instance type. Ensure that you are using an AMI that is enabled for ENA."

When attempting a windows instance recovery with ENA enabled, it may fail with the following error:

"Enhanced networking with the Elastic Network Adapter (ENA) is required for the 'xxxx.XXXXX' instance type. Ensure that you are using an AMI that is enabled for ENA."

There are two possible solutions to resolved this issue:

Solution #1:

Try to force creation of new Initial AMI - open Snapshots List, (Backup Monitor\ select backup -> View Snapshots) of latest backup.

And delete the relevant AMI (in Initial AMI Snapshots section).

After deletion, run an ASAP backup - new Initial AMI will be created.

An error you may face during the procedure is: "Instance recovery may fail with the "Address xxx.xx.xx.xx is in use"
To fix this, please follow this KB: https://support.n2ws.com/portal/en/kb/articles/instance-recovery-may-fail-with-the-address-xxx-xx-xx-xx-is-in-use-error

Solution #2:

During recovery, in AMI ID textbox , replace the current AMI ID with another existing AWS AMI ID (need to look for latest Windows version AMI, or use original one).

You can always get an AMI for any OS in the AWS marketplace and enter its ID in AMI ID textbox, and it should allow the restore to work.

You can also use the AMI Assistant (Backup Monitor\ select backup -> Recover -> select instance -> Recover and top left corner-> AMI Assistant) to see if there is a similar AMI that can be used.
