S3 copy fails with error: "This policy contains marketplace instances. The root volume of these instances cannot not be copied to S3, and will be excluded"

You may receive red letter warning when setting up "Copy to S3" if the root volume has a AWS Marketplace code associated with it.

This policy contains marketplace instances. The root volume of these instances cannot not be copied to S3, and will be excluded

This is an AWS limitation to protect "paid for" AWS AMI's and the job will fail if an volume has that tag associated with it

You can verify if the Volume that causes the error has a AWS Marketplace code in EC2 Console under Volumes, Under the description Tab field look under product codes

Resolution:
No action is required of the end user the message is just explaining how N2WS excludes the root volume but will copy the data volumes to S3. You also have the option to create a separate policy to backup Marketplace instances and configure it not to copy to S3.

How N2WS handles this for the backup and restore from S3.

Now what CPM does during the backup is exclude that root volume but will backup all other volumes attached.
The "S3 copy job Status" will change to "All Valid Targets copied".

When you go to the recovery panel you will see if you change the "Restore From  Field" to S3 Repository that only the data volume was copied and is eligible to be recovered.
